Representatives from Barton Community College and the American Welding Society (AWS) gathered Thursday morning to celebrate the college's receipt of a grant worth more than $24,000 from the AWS. The funds were used to purchase eight new welders and is part of an effort to enhance Barton's welding program.

Barton’s accelerated Carpentry Certificate Program is set to enroll students with classes starting in the spring. The program can be completed in one semester. It also features block-scheduling, which allows students to continue to work and make money while they go through the program.

Do I need an emergency fund and how much should I save? What is the best way to budget? These questions will be answered and more as part of Barton’s “$$Money$$” pop-up info event as part of their “Barton Bonus” series from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Technical Building, Room T-147.

As of October 12 our area is again essentially unchanged but it pays to remember that any rains Tuesday and onward aren’t in this report so hopefully conditions will improve a bit. Wheat planted is coming up and looking good.

Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training area. Donors will receive t-shirts and $5 e-cards. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks will be required.
