As of March 15, most of Barton and past of Stafford County has moved from severe to extreme drought and drought ranging from moderate to exceptional has enveloped the western two-thirds of the state.

The Barton Foundation aims to enhance the Barton student experience with its 12th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot fundraiser from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at Camp Aldrich, 884 NE 110 Ave. in Claflin. The money raised is used for Faculty Mini-Grants, which Barton faculty members can use to purchase items for their classrooms to enhance student learning experiences. The Foundation has awarded $119,644 in mini-grants to date.
Those seeking a credential as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) have the chance to enroll in a course at no charge thanks to a generous anonymous donor and a collaboration between Barton Community College, Ellsworth County Medical Center (ECMC) and Good Samaritan Retirement Center
Barton Community College will have no classes during its spring break from March 14-18. Barton’s offices will remain open through March 16 but will be closed March 17 and 18. The college’s regular class schedule and business hours will resume Monday, March 21.
As of March 1, severe drought has enveloped our area. The drought level continues to increase as you head towards the northwest and especially the southwest corner of the state. This combined with the extremely mild conditions is doing wheat no favors.
