Barton Community College will host a “Meet and Greet” for its new Vice President, Dr. Robin Garrett from 4-5 p.m. September 14 at the Shafer Art Gallery, which is located in the Fine Arts Building. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.

Barton Community College Lead Paramedic Instructor Dean A. Dexter was recently recognized by the Board of Directors of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for achieving 30 consecutive years as a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP). This national distinction is an honor held by few paramedics.

Barton Community College and the Center for Adult Education will be closed and there will be no classes in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7. Offices will reopen and classes will resume on Sept. 8.
With a smile a mile wide, former Foundation Director Darnell Holopirek fought back grateful tears as hand after hand shot up in the audience to pledge money in honor of Holopirek and her husband, Mel, during the 37th annual Big Benefit Auction on August 22.

Planting the Next Crop of Farmers
The official end of summer in Kansas is really the start of school. Most public schools are now in session and Barton Community College started this past Wednesday. The next “crop” of students has started on the formal journey of becoming professionals in agriculture while some are in their sophomore year. It might be a bit of a stretch but let’s compare education and agriculture.

Each year, the Barton Community College faculty and staff get to strut their artistic talents in the Shafer Art Gallery’s “FacultyStaffFriendsAcquaintancesandSomeFolksWeHardlyKnow” exhibit like professional artists, complete with a full-blown reception from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25. The exhibit features a variety of works by Louise Fenn including paintings, collages and constructions. Barton Ceramics Instructor Bill Forst will be featured with a display of recent ceramic work.
