Open auditions scheduled for student production of “Drugs Are Bad”

Acting enthusiasts are welcome to audition for the upcoming Barton Theatre student production of “Drugs Are Bad” by Jonathan Rand. Auditions are scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. October 9 and 10 in the Barton Fine Arts Auditorium in the Fine Arts Building. The play requires two male actors and one female.

Barton Theatre presents “Harvey”

The Barton Community College Theatre Department will present “Harvey” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 and 6, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Fine Arts Auditorium on campus. Tickets are $5 at the door; students admitted free.

Transitioning Fort Sill Soldiers to receive Hazardous Waste Worker training at no cost

Barton Community College will offer transitioning Fort Sill Soldiers, and family members with DOD ID cards, a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants.

The Hazardous Waste Worker (HWW) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends. The next course is set for October 15-26 at Truman Education Center, B3281, Fort Sill, Okla.

Shafer Art Gallery presents “Beyond Words: Visual Narratives from the Block Book to the Graphic Novel” September 12 through October 20

Comic books and graphic novels have made a resurgence thanks to the success of the Marvel Universe movies. In the Shafer Art Gallery’s next exhibit, “Beyond Words: Visual Narratives from the Block Book to the Graphic Novel”, visitors will explore the rich history of graphic novels dating back toward the end of the middle ages.

Foundation’s 40th Annual Auction raises $40,000 for scholarships and program enhancements

The proceeds from items sold, underwriters, program ads and ticket sales netted more than $40,000 at the 40th Annual Big Benefit Auction in late August, which was themed “Clownin’ Around.” Funds raised benefit students directly through scholarships and program enhancements at Barton Community College.

Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Coleen Cape said she feels fortunate to have reached the foundation's goal.
