The Barton Community College Music Department will host the Mid-America Woodwind Quintet at 7:30 p.m. April 15 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel located in Barton’s Fine Arts Building. This outstanding quintet is composed of a flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and French horn. The recital is free and open to the public.

The quintet is currently on tour and will be performing standard woodwind quintet literature. Members of the group are faculty of Emporia State University: Dr. Kate Bergman, Instructor of Flute; Dr. William Clamurro, oboe and Professor Emeritus of Spanish; Dr. Dawn McConkie, Assistant Professor of Clarinet and Saxophone; Dr. Allan Comstock, Professor of Double Reeds and Coordinator of Music History; Terrisa Ziek, Professor of French Horn.

The group member’s vast experience in professional playing is documented through participation in various symphonies and ensembles throughout the United States. Their program includes pieces by Reicha, Diemer and Persichetti. Also featured is a woodwind quintet composition by Wichita State University composition instructor, Katherine Murdock, titled “Postcards from the Center” which are four musical interpretations of Kansas postcards.
