Dear Editor,
This letter is in response to the March 2, 2016 letter to the editor titled, “Criminals shouldn’t get a free ride.”
The most important point of clarity is that there is no free ride. Inmate students pay tuition and fees like any other student, and those who take advantage of the courses in correctional settings are among the most motivated students I have encountered.

Barton Community College has named 213 students to the President’s List for the fall 2015 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

Barton Community College’s Center for Adult Education will soon be starting its nine-week GED Preparation Class.
The orientation session, which is a prerequisite for the course, will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on March 21, 22 and 24 at 1025 Main St. in Great Bend. Registration is recommended and the deadline is March 11.

Barton Community College’s music department will present “The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy” at 7:30 p.m. March 4 and 5 and at 2 p.m. March 6 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
The show is being directed by Barton’s Director of Chorale Activities Vern Fryberger. He has participated in 47 musicals over a span of 35 years.

As part of Barton Community College’s ongoing commitment to campus safety, the college’s Campus Safety Office has announced the launch of Rave Guardian, a free mobile app that turns any smartphone into a personal safety device. By downloading this free safety app, students and faculty can enhance their personal safety both on and off campus.
