The Barton Community College library will host “Librarypalooza” from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25 in the Barton Library. 

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet library staff, try out iPad minis and more at the “Technology Petting Zoo” and learn about library resources, services and recent additions.

Each year, the Barton Community College faculty and staff get to strut their artistic talents in the Shafer Art Gallery’s “Faculty-Staff-Friends-Acquaintances-and-Some-Folks-We-Hardly-Know” exhibit like professional artists, complete with a full-blown reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 22.  The show will also include exhibits from Esther Maher, which will feature a variety of prints, paintings and ceramics, and Valery Shilaev, which will include paintings focusing on nautical-themed pieces.

Usually the Barton Foundation chooses an individual or family to honor with the Old Bill Honorarium. This year the Foundation Board wanted to honor the business community in Great Bend by choosing to honor the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce.

Barton Community College’s Workforce Training and Economic Development department will host the “All About Careers!” event from 9:15 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, September 24 to showcase the college’s workforce training programs. Superintendents, principals, counselors, prospective students and parents are welcome to attend.  Lunch will be served from 11:30 – noon during a Q-and-A session at the end of the event.  There is no cost to attend.

Barton Community College’s Shafer Art Gallery will host a pageant performance of “The Miraculous Apparitions of the Virgin Mary,” Friday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. Actors from the Prince of Peace Catholic church will portray the popular Mexican story of the Virgin Mary’s miraculous appearance to Juan Diego in 1531.  Admission is free.

Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of Mexico and the Americas. For 483 years her image has been a symbol of unity, peace and compassion for people around the world.

“BARTON DYNASTY: Hunting for Bucks” is the theme for the 36th Annual Barton Foundation Big Benefit Auction, which this year’s honorary co-chairs, Toby and Kristy Hogan, find rather fitting as the owners of the hunting service, “Central Kansas Whitetails.” Only the “bucks” being hunted in this case are green, have presidents’ faces on them and they help local students pay tuition at Barton Community College.

Those looking for the fast-track to a high-paying career will soon be able to take advantage of a three-month natural gas measurement training program in Junction City offered by Barton Community College.

The coursework is taught from 8-5 p.m., five days per week for 11 weeks. Barton will offer the series of six courses beginning August 4, with the last day of the final class set for October 17.
