Barton Community College and the Center for Adult Education will be closed and there will be no classes in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 2. Offices will reopen and classes will resume on Sept. 3.

The Barton Dance Department will host auditions for its upcoming “Nutcracker for the Golden Belt” production from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 31 in Studio 34 on the Barton Campus, with callbacks at 2 p.m. that afternoon.

Barton Community College has launched the Community Music School program to provide piano lessons for children ages 6-18 in the community while simultaneously supporting the education of Barton music students.

Barton Community College’s 16th annual Wounded Warrior Golf Scramble, which benefits wounded soldiers from Fort Riley, is set for Sept. 14.

To celebrate the start of a new academic year and new leadership, Barton Community College will host a ‘Meet the President’ event from 4:30-6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Dry Lake Brewing in Great Bend.

The drought monitor report as of Tuesday, August 13 shows a very slight decrease in drought conditions for the state.

Barton Community College’s Center for Adult Education is holding orientation days Sept. 16-19 with multiple times available in preparation for its next nine-week session of high school diploma classes, which will start Sep. 23 or 24, depending on which class sessions are signed up for.

The Shafer Gallery will host an opening reception for its “All of the Above” exhibit from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 in the Gallery and will feature light refreshments and a talk by artist Rachel Curtis.
