Barton Community College celebrated the induction of three Fine & Performing Arts Hall of Fame members during its Holiday Concert on Dec. 8, recognizing their decades of dedication and impact on students and the community.

As of Tuesday, December 9, the drought monitor report indicates no real change from last week overall with some continued improvement in eastern Kansas.  The recent rains leave most of the state in very good shape heading into mid-December.

A holiday classic for all ages, Metropolitan Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” will be performed at 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at Barton Community College in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Barton Dance Theatre will host “Dancing with the Cougars,” a special tango dance workshop that features an unlikely pair of styles at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in Studio 34, with all proceeds supporting the group’s trip to perform in New York City in January.

Barton Community College has announced the hiring of Julie Bugner Smith as the Alumni and Events Coordinator, a newly created position within the Barton Community College Foundation.

Barton Community College has been selected as a key research partner in the new Prison Education Action Research Lab (PEARL), which is being launched this year by the University of Utah with an $8 million award from Ascendium Education Group.

The Central Kansas Community Choir (CKCC), in conjunction with Barton’s Music Department, will host a festive evening of sacred and secular choral music to welcome the holiday season at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the First United Methodist Church Great Bend at 2123 Forest Ave., in Great Bend.

Students taking lessons through Barton’s Community Music School will host a recital at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Dorothy Morrison Chapel in the Fine Arts Building.
