Developmental education at Barton provides students with an opportunity to  improve their basic math, reading, and/or writing skills.  

Barton continually updates courses in the developmental program to develop more efficient instructional methods to help students achieve college-readiness and to decrease the cost to students in time and in money. 

The English for Speakers of Other Languages program prepares students to communicate in English to improve skills to further their academic studies. The goal is to provide students with the opportunity to attain fluency in English.  Classes focus on academic instruction to include vocabulary, conversation, sentence structure and reading, test-taking skills, listening, speaking, and writing.

Barton Community College has announced Emma Hickel of Claflin and Allyson McDougal of Moore, Oklahoma as its 2024-25 Brant J. Ballhorst Student Ambassadors of the Year.

Tierra Yohon of Stockton and Paige Mink of Dodge City were named Barton Community College’s 2025 Outstanding Graduates, and Vice President of Student Services Angie Maddy recognized them as part of Barton’s commencement on Friday
