The Barton Community College men's basketball team received an at-large berth in the upcoming NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
Announced late Monday morning, the 27-6 Cougars received the 16th seed and is paired against 17th seeded Tyler Junior College for the opening game of The Tournament at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The winner will advance to take on top-seeded and unbeaten Indian Hills Community College in the 2 p.m. game on Tuesday.

The public is invited to observe a Vocal Masterclass forum from 3:30-5:45 p.m. and from 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 15 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel in the Fine Arts Building at Barton Community College. Those interested in learning more about vocal technique and performing are encouraged to attend one or both sessions. Admission is free.

Barton Community College will offer a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to transitioning Fort Carson Soldiers and family members with Department of Defense ID cards.
The Hazardous Waste Worker (HWW) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends. The next course is set from March 26 through April 6 on post at 1638 Elwell Street, Building 6236.

The Barton Community College Theatre Department will host open auditions for its 2nd Annual Original Playwright Series 4-7 p.m. March 27 and 28 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Auditions are open to all students, staff, faculty and community members. No experience or preparation required.

U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall, M.D. has agreed to help Barton Community College celebrate the achievements of the class of 2018 as keynote speaker during the 48th annual commencement, set for 7 p.m. May 11 in the Kirkman Gym on campus.
Dr. Marshall, a longtime local obstetrician-gynecologist in central Kansas, won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in Kansas’ 1st district in 2016, where he has been a vocal proponent of community colleges, career programs and technical education.

Barton Community College’s Center for Adult Education will soon begin its nine-week GED Preparation Class with a new orientation schedule and attendance policy.
Students are now required to attend all three orientation classes March 12-14, and the first day of class on March 15. Failure to attend all four days will result in removal of the student from the program.

The musical comedy ‘whodunnit’ parody “Curtains” is set to premiere at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 9 at the Barton Community College Fine Arts Auditorium. The community will have two more chances to catch the show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11.
