Barton Medical Laboratory Technician student Amber Gabel of Hays was named Outstanding Student on April 28 by the Kansas Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (KSCLS) at the KSCLS and Clinical Laboratory Managers Association (CLMA) annual conference. Gabel also received a $250 scholarship from CLMA. Requirements focused on GPA, credit hours enrolled, communication, instructor recommendations and teamwork.

The ashes of the original Camp Aldrich Dining Hall, a building storied with weddings, reunions, summer camps and much more, have been removed to make room for a new facility for the next generation of central Kansas families to enjoy.
The foundation of the new dining hall has been poured and basement walls are being finished. The scheduled completion date is December, with an opening date of April, 2016.
The original Dining Hall burned down due to accidental causes in April of 2014.

The Barton Music Department awards 11 scholarships every year at about $1,000 each and 20 performance awards for non-music major students, which enables them to participate in ensembles. This could not be done without the community’s support of the annual Music Endowment Concert, which is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 4 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

The Barton Theatre Department will hold its last performance of the school year, the Thespian Showcase, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
Barton Theatre students will perform monologues, scenes, musical theatre, improvisation and original work. The Barton Theatre Department will hand out year-end acting and technical awards. Admission is free and complimentary refreshments will be provided at a reception following the performances and ceremony.

Barton Community College will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157. The recital is free.

Barton Community College will host its eighth annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 4-6 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.
The contest is open to all residents of Barton County. Artists wishing to participate need to register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any of the three days. Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6.
