The Barton Community College Foundation presents scholarships each year from funds received through its fundraising events, endowments and annual scholarship gifts. For the 2016-17 academic year, the Foundation has selected the following students (listed by hometown) for scholarship offers:

Two Barton Community College students earned awards in the Fine Arts Competition for professional photography and painting at the Kansas State Fair.

Karole Erikson had pieces place first and second in professional photography, with Diane Engle receiving the Stuart Awbrey Memorial Award and fourth place for painting. Erikson and Engle are students of Art Instructor Steve Dudek. Both are also employees at the college.

The Barton Community College Theatre Department will present “Our Town” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 and 30, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Fine Arts Auditorium on campus. A question and answer session will take place after the Oct. 1 performance.

The Shafer Art Gallery is hosting Part One of its Marvelous Mask Making Workshop from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 24 with Part Two to follow from 10 a.m.-noon on Oct. 15. Participants will meet in the Shafer Art Gallery and then proceed to classroom T-145 where they will create paper mache masks based on animals. This event comes just in time for Halloween.
