Barton’s History of Dance class will present "Dancing Around the World" at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in Studio 34 on the Barton campus. This is a free event, but cash donations are greatly appreciated to support the Dance Department.
Fine and Performing Arts Coordinator and Dance Instructor Danika Bielek said the evening program focuses on cultural exchange. The event is an interactive presentation where her History of Dance class students will present and teach dances from their heritage as part of their class project as opposed to a traditional concert.
“We have a large class of students who come from many different countries and bring a wide range of experiences and ways of dancing,” she said. “One way to gain an understanding of different cultures, is to learn how other people move. The students will present the history and instruction on dances from their heritage, including dances from Greece, Mexico, and Slovakia among other countries. Students gain presentational skills as they share a piece of their culture and history.”
