Most students who take classes at Barton Community College at Fort Riley learn about the institution’s unique offerings tailored to Soldiers’ lifestyles after transferring to the post. Melissa and Justin Johnson, however, chose Fort Riley in 2018 out of three options specifically because of Barton’s day and night classes, which are offered on scholarship to Soldiers, their spouses and dependents in seven six-week cycles.

Barton Community College has announced its fall 2020 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society initiates.

PTK is the international honor society for two-year colleges and symbolizes excellence in higher education.  Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to join PTK. The PTK group at Barton spends significant time sponsoring local events as well as volunteering to support others’ events.

Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training area. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks will be required.

Barton encourages potential students to let their “GPA Pay the Way” through the Barton Bound scholarship. The tiered program awards first time college students who graduated from a Kansas high school based on their GPA or ACT score. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 1 (students graduating in December have a deadline of Dec.1).
