Barton Community College has released the 11 edition of its literary journal “Prairie Ink.”

The journal is intended as a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents.

The collection of fiction, poetry, drama and non-fiction is open to submissions from Barton students, employees of community members who live in Barton’s seven-county service area and the Fort Riley, Fort Leavenworth and Grandview Plaza outreach locations.

The Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration recently announced the new Certified Volunteer Administrators (CVA) in the United States. Director of the Volunteers In Action of Central Kansas and AmeriCorps Seniors Programs Linn Hogg is now one of only 6 CVA’s in the state of Kansas. 
 
Hogg said she hopes to use the knowledge she gained to continue to enhance volunteer efforts and organizations in the area.

Barton Community College has published its annual Report to the Community, which highlights the college’s progress toward meeting the mission set by the elected Board of Trustees.

Among the highlights from the 2019-2020 academic year include a total of more than 13,000 students served, 13 years with no tax increases, a return on investment of almost $3 for every Barton County tax dollar and a positive outlook as the college looks to 2021 after navigating many challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
