Barton Community College will help area high school seniors plan for their futures at Senior Day, starting at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 16, with a sign-up deadline of Nov. 1.
Students travel from all over the world to attend Barton Community College. On Tuesday, sixth graders from St. Joseph Catholic School in Ellinwood were able to talk with them about their journey to the United States and learn about a variety of cultures when they visited an English as a Second Language (ESOL) class last Tuesday on the Barton campus.
Cinnamon rolls, cider, chili, wine, beer and multiple giveaways will be available at the family-friendly “After Hours” event from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Camp Aldrich, hosted by Barton Community College in conjunction with the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce.
Barton Community College will celebrate the completion of the carpentry, plumbing and welding shop in conjunction with the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Oct. 13 in rooms T713-174.

The drought monitor report as of Tuesday, September 27, indicates a bit of stability in our area for severe and extreme drought although extreme drought has pretty much enveloped most of Barton County while things eased a tad to severe where more rain was received so not great conditions for planting wheat is an understatement.
The drought monitor report as of Tuesday, September 20, indicates an ever-increasing expansion of extreme over most of Barton County. Currently the outlook is past grim for fall wheat planting in much of the state and the recent rains helped a little but most areas don’t have any subsoil moisture.
A wide range of local artists’ work will be on display at the Shafer Gallery as part of the Barton County Arts Council Friends and Acquaintances exhibit Sept. 30 through Nov. 3.
Over 100 Barton Community College students participated in the tenth annual “Golden Belt Glow 4 Life” 5k run/walk to help raise money to promote suicide awareness and prevention Saturday in Great Bend at Veteran’s Park.
Barton Community College joined 18 Kansas community colleges and 19 independent, four-year Kansas colleges in signing a milestone transfer agreement on Tuesday that will create a seamless transfer of all general education courses to independent universities and colleges and will fulfill all general education requirements.
