Barton Adjunct Professor of Homeland Security and Emergency Management on the Grandview Plaza campus Jermaine King completed the 2023 five-month Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program over the course of last year.
“It was a remarkable chance for me in the company of leaders from all over the U.S. who have a common passion for making a significant impact on the lives of our military and veterans,” he said.
The Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program is a groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind, that brings together bold leaders from diverse sectors across the country. This includes civilians, veterans, and active military members, all united in their support for our nation’s veterans and their families. Over the course of five months, participants have the unique opportunity to engage with nationally known and distinguished professionals, educators, and veteran transition and leadership development experts. The program sessions were held at the prestigious Bush Center in Washington, D.C., from July to November 2023.
King said he learned from prominent business, political, and military leaders, which included meeting former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.
“I was fortunate enough to receive invaluable guidance from prominent figures,” he said. “Actively listening to all of these leaders helped me understand the importance of surrounding myself with people who have the same drive to think outside the box when creating innovative ways to help our veterans.”
King services in active duty capacity as the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E9) in the Air Force with over 22 years of service and has deployed in support of Operations New Dawn, Inherent Resolve, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom.
