Barton Community College is hosting the first round of in-person, class-style auditions for its dance company, Barton Dance Theatre, from 5-6:15 p.m. (check-in at 4:30 p.m.) Nov. 6 in Studio 34, located in the Sunflower housing units on Barton’s campus.

If accepted, students will receive 2 college credit hours, a scholarship and gain valuable experience as a working contemporary dancer in a company setting, from auditions to final performances. Company activities for the spring semester include in-state and out-of-state dance trips with the company to perform, attend dance workshops, and see dance concerts live and an end of semester dance concert. Dancers must be 16 years or older to be considered. Barton Dance Theatre meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m. plus additional rehearsals for performance preparation.

Dance Coordinator Danika Bielek said students considering a job or career in dance, or becoming a dance major, should consider what Barton’s Dance Department has to offer.

“This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy dancing,” she said. “Barton’s Dance Department offers competitive performance award scholarships that can help pay for school while students continue to grow as dancers in a nurturing and creative environment.”
