Class A & B Training Details

Class A & B CDL Training
Get fully prepared to operate commercial vehicles with Barton’s comprehensive Class A and B training:

  • 6-Week Online Theory Course (3 Credit Hours):
    Complete theory work on your own schedule. Weekly assignments help reinforce learning. A textbook is required: J.J. Keller Entry Level Driver Training Manual.
  • 8-Week Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Course (2 Credit Hours):
    Driving sessions are scheduled individually with your instructor.
    Train on a variety of vehicles, including day cabs, conventional trucks with sleepers, flatbeds, van trailers, and Class B flatbeds—all equipped with manual transmissions.
    Customized training options available.

Passenger/School Bus (P/S) Endorsement Training

  • P/S Theory Course: Available online or with classroom time.
  • P/S Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Course:
    • Flexible scheduling coordinated with your instructor.
    • Customized options available based on your needs.

Class A & B Program Process

Class A & B CDL Program Process

  1. Apply & Enroll
    Start by applying for admissions to Barton Community College and enrolling in the CDL Theory Course.

  2. Get Started
    Once enrolled, you will receive a welcome letter from your instructor with important course information.

  3. Complete the Theory Course

    Successfully finish the 6-week online Theory Course with a minimum score of 80%, as required by FMCSA, to earn your Theory Certificate.

  4. Prepare for Behind-the-Wheel (BTW)

    Before beginning the 8-week BTW course, students must provide:

    • A valid Class A or B Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)

      • Class A requires airbrakes and combination endorsements

    • A negative drug test result

    • A valid Medical DOT card

  5. Attend Mandatory Orientation
    Orientation takes place in the evening and is required to proceed. At this meeting, you will:

    • Submit all required documents

    • Complete enrollment paperwork

    • Receive your drive time and testing schedule

  6. Drive & Test
    During the 8-week BTW course, students will schedule drive times and testing appointments with their instructor.

This structured process ensures you’re ready for success on the road and in the industry.

Public CDL Drive Testing

Barton Community College offers CDL driving examinations to applicants who meet Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements and provide their own vehicle for testing.

  • Initial Test Fee: $50
  • Retest Fee: $20
  • Payment is required at the time of scheduling

Cancellation Policy
Applicants who cancel or reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice may transfer the prepaid test fee to a new appointment or request a refund. If the appointment is missed without notice, the test fee will be forfeited.
