The Barton Theatre Department is calling for original plays from the community for its Original Playwright Series. Playwrights will have until Feb. 14 to submit their script. Three of the submitted shows will be chosen for the series.

Plays must be:

  • 20-30 minutes in length
  • contained on one set with two to five characters
  • free of profanity
  • original and never produced

Community members, including those at Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth, are encouraged to submit their work.

Barton Community College’s annual literary publication, Prairie Ink, has begun accepting entries for its tenth edition. 

Editor Scott McDonald said the aim of the publication is to provide a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents.

The editors are looking for the following types of original work to be considered for publication:  fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, drama, and graphic short stories.  They will be accepting submissions until April 1, 2019.

We have spent the first few weeks of the new year discussing water in Kansas.  With this background, today let’s discuss the problem.  A dilemma affecting all of us whether we are involved in agriculture or not.  First, how did the state find itself in this situation?

Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training area.

Barton Community College will offer transitioning Fort Carson Soldiers, and family members with DOD ID cards, a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants.

The Hazardous Waste Worker Training (HWWT) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends. The next course is set from Feb. 25 through March 8 at 5905 MaGrath Avenue BLDG 1282, Fort Carson, Colo.
