Military Studies

The Military Studies curriculum is designed to enhance the professional competence of Active Duty, Reserve Component and National Guard service members. Completion of the degree provides college credits that service members can use towards promotion and establishes a foundation for advancement toward a baccalaureate degree. Each course in the Military Studies curriculum provides on-the-job benefits to service members in the performance of their military duties.

Career Paths

Students who complete the program may be prepared to pursue careers in the military, government service, leadership and management, military history, political science, and other fields connected to military and public sector careers.

Credit for Prior Learning

Barton Community College recognizes the value of your professional and military experience. Students may be eligible to receive college credit for prior learning in the following areas:

  • Industry or workplace training
  • Military training or schooling
  • Civilian education and certifications

To be considered for credit, students must submit appropriate documentation such as professional licenses, industry-recognized certificates, military certificates of completion, or official college transcripts.

Credit evaluations are conducted upon written request and are available only to degree-seeking students majoring in a related program. All credit awards follow the guidelines established by the American Council on Education (ACE).

To earn an Associate of Applied Science degree, students must complete 60 credit hours, with at least 15 credits earned directly through Barton.
