Flute players and music enthusiasts will have the opportunity to listen and learn from one of the best flutists in the region as Kansas City flute player and musicologist Bryanna Beasley will present a masterclass from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Chapel in the Fine Arts Building, followed by a duet recital with Barton Guitar Instructor Aleia Gonzalez from 5-6 p.m. March 5 in the Dorothy Morrison Chapel in the Fine Arts Building.
The masterclass portion will provide an enriching opportunity for students and community members who play the flute to learn from Beasley. The masterclass and recital are both free and open to the public.The concert will showcase a diverse flute and guitar duet repertoire with works by Villa-Lobos, Giuliani, Chen Yi, Ibert, and Liebermann.
Beasley is a long-time Kansas City resident. She freelances in the Kansas City metro, teaching and performing as an orchestral, chamber, and church musician. She has performed with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra and Midwest Chamber Ensemble. Beasley was selected to perform a lecture recital in 2022 at the International Alliance for Women in Music conference on the topic “Musical Multiplicities: The Life and Roles of Mel Bonis through the Lens of her Sonata for Flute and Piano.” She received her Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance in 2017 studying with Dr. Mary Karen Clardy at the University of North Texas. During her master’s degree studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, she found a second musical side of herself as a musicologist. Beasley graduated in 2021 with a Master of Music degree in musicology, advised by Dr. William Everett, and in flute performance studying with Dr. Mary Posses.
