Barton Community College’s Center for Adult Education will soon begin another nine-week GED Preparation Class. Orientation classes are required and are the first step to obtaining the Kansas State High School Diploma through the GED Prep Program.

Multiple course types are available for students to select for orientation.  Students can choose between LiveOnline classes, Fuzion classes or face-to-face classes.  LiveOnline classes meet exclusively via Zoom. Fuzion classes feature a combination of face-to-face students and Zoom students. Orientation times will depend on the class time selected by the student. Orientation times for day classes are from 8 – 11 a.m. July 20-22. The first day of GED classes is July 23. Orientation times for evening classes are 6-9 p.m. July 21 and July 23, with the first evening of GED class on July 28. The center is located at 1025 Main St. in Great Bend.

The center offers three GED class times: Students choosing to take classes during the day can choose between 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Students choosing evening classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9 pm.

Students will complete required testing, learn how to navigate their GED.com account and learn about WorkReady! Students will also meet one-on-one with their instructor to discuss goals, expectations, attendance requirements and workload.

Those interested in taking the GED exam without any preparation instruction can do so right away but are urged to receive advising before moving forward.

Minors must bring a parent or legal guardian to enroll. A completed Compulsory Attendance Waiver is required for any student 16 or 17 years of age, prior to starting classes. The form can be furnished by the last school the student attended. If students are unable to obtain a form, they can contact the Adult Education office and a form can be sent out.
