Barton Community College has hosted the Wounded Warrior Golf Scramble for the past 17 years, and the event is so much more than just another day on the course: it’s a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact.

The Barton Golf Team, led by Head Coach Doug Kaiser, along with community members, came together at the Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Junction City this September to transform their love of golf into meaningful actions. All the proceeds from the scramble go to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

Kaiser has led this fundraising project since 2012 and said he and his volunteers are very committed to the cause. To date, the event has raised a total of $46,950.

“WWP’s mission is not just about providing services,” he said. “It’s about restoring hope, rebuilding lives, and honoring the sacrifices made by those who served. The organization stands as a vast support system for warriors and their families, addressing needs with compassion and long-term commitment.”

WWP offers life-changing programs at no cost to veterans, including mental health services, career counseling, adaptive sports, family support, and guidance in navigating the VA benefits system. Their work touches every aspect of a warrior’s well-being, ensuring that those who have sacrificed for our nation receive the sustained support they deserve.

Barton President Marcus Garstecki said the college is honored to be a part of this event.

“This event stands as a testament to what a committed community of people can accomplish when united for a purpose,” he said. “Barton is proud to support to this brave group of individuals and their families.”

Sponsors included the Barton men’s and women’s golf teams, Doug and Michelle Kaiser, Walmart of Junction City, Briggs Motors of Manhattan, and Rolling Meadows Golf Course.
