Barton Community College is slashing prices on online courses for its summer sessions for Kansas High School students and graduating seniors from $150 to the face-to-face price of $114. That’s a savings of 24 percent per credit hour. Career technical education (CTE) courses are still being offered at no tuition charged for high school students through a state program called Excel in CTE.
Coordinator of Community Education Karly Little said the Summer Sale is designed to help high school students and graduating seniors save money and make headway on their college educations while they’re staying home during the COVID-19 pandemic. High school sophomores and juniors may have the option to take the courses as dual credit, but Little said students should check with their high schools to see whether or not the class would count on their high school transcript and how it could impact their class schedules later on.
“This is one way we at Barton are meeting people in the middle and offering an opportunity and a service when it’s needed most,” Little said. “This is really what a community college’s mission is all about.”
Students can take classes a la carte or work towards earning an associate degree or certificate, with some certificates being completed in as little as one semester. Students can access online courses 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There will be five summer sessions with two six-week sessions, two eight-week sessions and one 12-week session.
There is a wide array of courses available. All sessions are open for enrollment from now until the day before the class starts, which are as follows:
Extended Session (12 weeks): May 18, 2020 – August 9, 2020
Session 1 (6 weeks): May 18, 2020 – June 28, 2020
Session 2 (8 weeks): June 1, 2020 – July 26, 2020
Session 3 (8 weeks): June 15, 2020 – August 9, 2020
Session 4 (6 weeks): June 29, 2020 – August 9, 2020
