The Shafer Art Gallery at Barton Community College is accepting submissions from Kansas artists for its annual “Friends and Acquaintances” exhibition through the submission deadline at 10 a.m. Aug. 24.

Accepted artwork must be delivered to the Shafer Art Gallery between Aug. 24 and Aug. 31. Selected works will be featured in the Friends and Acquaintances Exhibition from Sept. 11 through Oct. 30. The exhibition will open with a public reception celebrating the participating artists and their work. Attendees will get to hear from this year’s spotlight artist, Gracie Bronson, and a variety of local artists. Light refreshments will be served.

The exhibition celebrates the talent and diversity of artists from across Kansas by showcasing a wide variety of artistic styles, mediums, and perspectives. It provides an opportunity for both emerging and established artists to share their work with the public while fostering connections within the state's artistic community.

Shafer Art Gallery Director Jenna Harbaugh said she encourages artists from across the state to submit their work.

“Friends and Acquaintances is an incredible show meant to bring attention to talented Kansas artists,” she said. “We hope to create an opportunity for connection between the community and local artists, showing a side of Kansas they may not have experienced before.”

Kansas artists are invited to submit original artwork for consideration. A variety of media will be accepted, subject to the exhibition requirements outlined on the online entry form.
