Barton’s Fine and Performing Arts faculty will come together for a special collaborative event showcasing their talents through live performances and displayed art pieces inspired by their colleague’s creative work at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
The art and performance selections to be presented have been carefully chosen to inspire students and the community.
Barton’s Guitar Instructor Aleia Gonzalez said she is looking forward to sharing her performance with the audience.
“I’m excited to bring Agustín Barrios Mangoré’s ‘La Catedral’ back to life for this year’s faculty recital,” she said. “One of the Paraguayan composer’s most renowned works, it conveys moods of melancholy and nostalgia in the first movement, followed by a religious and contemplative second movement. The final movement contrasts this peaceful atmosphere with a highly technical and energetic section. Barrios is known for his virtuosic guitar writing, lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and an exceptional understanding of the instrument. ‘La Catedral’ is a great example of his ability to combine expressive and technically demanding writing.”
Displayed artwork will be projected during the live performances and is also on exhibit in the Shafer Gallery’s Friends and Acquaintances show. Presenting artists include Mark Freeman, Magdalena Jacobson (Mantra Cora), Philip Rubinov Jacobson, and Brandon Steinert.
Performances include music by Dr. Alejandro Avila, Dr. Eric Foley, Aleia Gonzalez, Jamie Minneman, Daniel Albertson, Alejandra Cornejo, and Colvin Hooser. Dance Instructor Danika Bielek will present original dance works. Director of Theatrical Activities Jack Greenwood will perform a monologue from the play “Death of a Salesman.”
