Barton Community College to offer summer residential theatre program “Broadway @ Barton”

Up and coming thespians can hone their craft this summer by attending “Broadway @ Barton,” a residential summer high school musical theatre program from June 15-27.

Broadway @ Barton is an intensive residential summer musical theatre program for current high school students.  Students will attend classes each morning in theatrical costuming & makeup, vocal performance, music theory, dance, improvisation, monologues, auditioning, lighting and set design.  Afternoons will consist of dance, vocal and acting rehearsals for the Broadway musical, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” in Barton Community College’s newly renovated Fine Arts Auditorium.

Tuition is $700 per student.  This will cover all camp fees, classes, meals in the student union and housing and three college credit-hours.

The Program Director is Barton Theatre Director Erin Renard, who has over 30 years of experience in theatre performance, choreography and direction.  She has been seen on television as well as short and feature films.  

Musical Director Alex Underwood and Costume Director Tomme Williams will also provide instruction.  Underwood is a professional Musical Director and choir conductor.  He performs with Westminster Choir several times a year at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer Hall.  His theatre experience includes over 30 full-scale productions.  Williams is the Theatre Director at Fort Hays State University.  

Leon Sobba will serve as the Technical Director and has decades of experience in stage production.
