The Barton Community College Foundation kicked off its Annual Academic Enrichment Fund Campaign titled “Slide Rules to Smartphones” on March 1.  Longtime supporter and former employee of the college Paul Maneth will serve as the chairman for the month-long fundraising drive.

Designed to raise funds for academic scholarships and enhancements, Barton’s Director for Institutional Advancement Darnell Holopirek said this campaign is unique because it allows donors to specialize their gift by choosing what department or fund they would like their donation to go to, and that the size of the donation is not what is important.

“If they have an endowment they want to give to or if they want to give their contribution to a specific academic department or scholarship, they can do that,” she said.  “So many times donors feel like they have to give big but that’s not true.  Every dollar makes a difference and every gift can also be used as a tax advantage.”

Maneth, who worked in Admissions for the college and eventually became the Dean of Instruction, is spearheading the campaign, which began with a letter urging area residents to donate.

“The College has prospered through the generous support of many businesses and individuals who have financially contributed to the Foundation's scholarship programs,” he said.  “Now more than ever, private support through the Barton Foundation is critical to the continued success of those who want to make a difference in our society. We all want to see people succeed and make our community and nation a better place to live … continued education could not be more important to those wanting to realize their dreams.”

Holopirek said Maneth is an ideal candidate to serve as the chairperson.

“Paul has seen the college grow, and he’s seen the value to the community,” she said.  “He has been a wonderful supporter and he truly believes in the impact quality education can have for everyone.”

While the campaign officially runs through March, anyone can donate via this fund at any time.  For more information or to make a contribution, contact Holopirek at holopirekd@bartonccc.edu or (620) 792-9367.
