A degree in sociology provides students with an understanding groups and group dynamics that prepares students for a variety of academic and professional fields. Sociology graduates are well-positioned for both academic work at the postgraduate level as well as a litany of jobs social services and human services at employers ranging from governmental and educational institutions to chartable organizations to private industry.

Students Preparing to Transfer

Barton Community College's Sociology curriculum is designed to provide the general education requirement and core Sociology courses for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor's degree in Sociology. In addition to general education courses like Intro to Sociology and Intro to Social Work, we offer a variety of electives including Human Sexuality, Marriage and Family and Women in Society. Electives must meet the requirements of your transferring institution. Students should coordinate with their advisor for transfer requirements.
