Information may be obtained from the Veterans Administration website at http://www.va.gov/ to verify individual eligibility and requirements to apply. Once your eligibility has been confirmed, Barton Community College will assist you in processing the necessary form(s).

Barton Community College offers a Veteran Services Office in two locations:

Barton County Campus: Services Great Bend, surrounding communities and students that are out-of-state. Please contact Nicole Berger, VA Certifying Official at 620-792-9363 or bergern@bartonccc.edu 

Fort Riley/Leavenworth Campus: Services Fort Riley, Leavenworth and surrounding communities. Please contact Kandi LeClear, VA Certifying Official at 866-452-4391, lecleark@bartonccc.edu or FaceTime FR.VA.Advisor@bartonccc.edu.

The information provided on this website pertains to both campus and will be required. All documenation must be submitted before certification can occur.


 

Chapter 30- VRAP & Montgomery GI Bill
VA Form 22-1990 (first time applying)- The application can be submitted online via the VA VONAPP website https://www.ebenefits.va.gov.  A copy of the application must be submitted to Barton Community College, for a file to be created and maintained.

*Out-of-service students must submit a copy of a DD-214, member 4 copy to accompany the application.

*VA Form 22-1995 (change of program/place of training)- The application can be submitted online via the VONAPP VA website https://www.ebenefits.va.gov. A copy of the application must be submitted to Barton Community College, for a file to be created and maintained.

Payment
Students that are enrolled must complete a monthly verification to the VA verifying that the enrollment status has not changed. Verification can be done by calling 1-877-823-2378 or visiting https://www.ebenefits.va.gov. VA does not pay the school directly. Balances must be paid in full prior to the next enrollment period. Payment can be made by cash, check, money order, or credit card.

*Out-of-service students are required to pay 25% of their total tuition and fees at the time of enrollment.

*Active duty students are not required to pay 25% at the time of enrollment.

Chapter 31- Vocational Rehabilitation
Students must contact the Veterans Administration Office in Wichita, 1-800-827-1000 for guidance to apply for this benefit. Once your eligibility has been confirmed, please submit a VA Form 28-1905 to Barton Community College.

Payment
CH 31 students are not required to pay a percentage of the tuition at the time of enrollment, however, if the VA Form 28-1905 has not been received than payment in full is due at the time of enrollment.

Books
Book vouchers are available to student taking courses through bartonline-ONLY. Students will need to visit http://bartonccc.textbookx.com/account/voucherRequest.php to complete the voucher request.  Once the voucher request is approved (if all appropriate documents are received by your VA Certifying Official), you will receive a voucher number that you can use to order the textbook(s).  If you have questions regarding textbooks please contact the Bookstore at 1-800-748-7594 ext. 229.

Chapter 33 Post 9/11

Transfer of VA Benefits to Eligible  Dependents'
VA benefits can be transferred to eligible dependents' by submitting the VA Form 22-1990E.  The application can be found and submitted through the VONAPP VA website https://www.ebenefits.va.gov.  A copy of the application must be submitted to the Barton Community College, for a file to be created and maintained.

Certificate of Eligibility
Once the VA has processed the application, students will receive a certificate of eligibility (COE). A copy of the COE must be submitted to Barton Community College. Students that do not submit a COE are required to pay 25% down in lieu of the certificate arriving.  A refund could be deemed necessary if the students entitlement is 100%.

Payment
CH 33 students are not required to pay any percentage of the tuition if they have been awarded 100% entitlement-see certificate of eligibility for entitlement. However, if the entitlement is less than 100%, the student is responsible for the percentage that is not covered at the time of enrollment.

Chapter 35-Survivors & Dependents' Assistance
*VA Form 22-5490 (Dependents' Application for VA Education Benefits). The application can be submitted online via the VONAPP VA website https://www.ebenefits.va.gov. A copy of the application must be submitted to the Barton Community College, for a file to be created and maintained.  

Payment
Students that are enrolled must complete a monthly verification to the VA verifying that the enrollment status has not changed. Chapter 1606 -GI Bill Selected Reserve

Payment
Tuition Assistance must be requested and submitted to the Business Office.  Without tuition assistance, students are required to pay 25% down and remaining balance prior to the end of the session. VA does not pay the school directly. Balances must be paid in full prior to the next enrollment period. Payment can be made by cash, check, money order, or credit card.

Transcripts
Students are required to submit unofficial transcripts from each school attended prior to first VA certification. Unofficial transcripts will need to be accompanied with the VA Applications or certificate of eligiblity to avoid delay in certification. The official transcripts must be submitted by the second session of attendance. Transcripts must be mailed directly to BartonCC- Fort Riley Campus, P.O Box 2463, Fort Riley, KS  66442 for those student who are pursuing a degree through the Fort Riley/Leavenworth Campus.  Student pursing a degree through the Barton County Campus must submit official transcripts to 245 N. 30th Rd. Great Bend, KS  67530.  We do not accept faxed, or emailed transcripts as official copies (except through approved agencies). VA certification will be denied if transcripts are not received by the deadline of the second session of attendance. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Degree Plan
Students utilizing their VA benefits must be pursuing a degree with Barton Community College. Courses must be taken in accordance with the degree plan, or certification to the VA cannot occur. Students must check with your assigned advisor for clarification.

Intent to Enroll Form
Each time enrollment has occurred the Intent to Enroll (ITE) form must submitted for VA certification. Certification will be done when the classes have begun. Visit https://exsforms2.bartonccc.edu/veterans/veterans_enrollment.htm. Each session/cycle/term must be on separate forms.

Visiting VA Students
A parent school letter must be submitted if students are not degree seeking with Barton Community College. The letter must be submitted on school letterhead with an authorized signature. Letters can be submitted by fax or email. For Barton County Campus certifications, please fax to 620-786-1185 or email bergern@bartonccc.edu.  For Fort Riley/Leavenworth Campus certifications, please fax to 785-239-8352 or email lecleark@bartonccc.edu.

Visiting students are also required to submit the INTENT TO ENROLL Form.  If using Post 9/11 (CH 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation benefits (CH 31), a copy of the certificate of eligiblity or 1905 must be submitted to the appropriate campus. 

Full Time vs. Part Time
The Dept. of Veteran Affairs determines the rate of pursuit by the number of credits and days/weeks of the semester/session/term/cycle.  Students can typically be considered a full-time VA student based on this criteria (can change without notice):

Enrollment of six credit hours during a six, eight or nine week cycle/session is considered full time for VA students.

Enrollment of twelve credit hours during a 17 week session is considered full time for VA students.
