Barton Community College’s Center for Adult Education will soon be starting its 9-week GED Preparation Class.

The orientation session, which is a prerequisite for the course, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 2-5 at 1025 Main St. in Great Bend. Those interested can call ahead or arrive on the first day of orientation.

Regular coursework begins on Sept. 8 and is offered from 9 a.m. – noon Monday, Tuesday and Thursday or in the evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Barton’s Coordinator of Adult Education Chris Lemon said he hopes students will view their GED as an open doorway to greater opportunities in post-secondary education. Barton has taken steps to incentivize this type of long-term thinking among its GED students with some significant scholarship opportunities.

There is a one-time $50 fee for materials.  Once students have completed the preparation courses, they will be able to take the official GED test. The cost to take the GED test is $120.

Individuals who are interested in taking the GED exam without any preparation instruction can take the GED exam right away, but are urged to receive advising before moving forward.

Students must bring a valid ID. Minors must bring a parent or legal guardian to enroll and must also bring their disclaimer or exemption documentation from their high school or online program.
