The Barton Community College Dance Team took home the region six championship trophies for the Team Dance and Hip Hop divisions in Iola Sunday. Mario Lao also competed in the solo division earning third place.

Eight Kansas community colleges competed in the Team Dance division and six competed in the Hip Hop division. There were 14 competitors in the solo competition.

Barton Community College Head Dance and Cheer coach Amanda Schnoebelen said she was pleased with how her team performed.

“I don't believe people understand the amount of hours of practice that my team puts in,” she said.  “They practice year round, every day.  Barton Dancers are serious athletes who are extremely hard working and dedicated to be the best.  They set goals for themselves and as a team, and work to achieve those goals.  I am very proud to say that Barton has the best community college dance team in Kansas.  It is very rewarding to me as a coach to see their hard work pay off.”

The dance team will compete in the National Collegiate Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. April 9-11.
