Barton Community College’s Shafer Gallery is hosting the Barton County High School Juried Art Exhibition March 6-27. The student artists were recognized for their work at the opening reception March 6 at the gallery. Jurors for the exhibition were Barton art instructors Bill Forst and Steve Dudek. They awarded ribbons for first, second and third place, and honorable mention.
For the second year in a row, Great Bend High School art student Catherine Nelson won Best of Show in the three-dimensional division. This year she received the award for a stoneware piece titled “Would You Like to Hear a Story?”
Ellinwood art student Kaitlyn Robl won Best of Show in two-dimensional art for her charcoal drawing titled “Forgotten.” See the complete list of award winners . . . . .
The high school artists whose works are featured in the exhibition are the students of Carol Selle and Liz Bowman, Great Bend; Greg Maxwell, Ellinwood; Christina Lamoureaux, Hoisington; and Steve Dixon, Claflin.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Group tours and evening showings are available by appointment. The gallery will be closed March 21-25 for the college’s Spring Break, but the gallery will re-open on Sunday, March 27, to offer a final day to see the high school exhibit.
All Shafer Gallery exhibits are presented in part by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
