Theme for Barton’s student show is “Art Is Born in Fire and Alchemy.” The exhibit will be separated into two divisions, one for degree seeking and the other for non-degree seeking art students. Categories of works will include oil painting, watercolor, drawing, ceramics and photography.

Juror for the exhibit is Micky Yalg, art professor at Fort Hays State University. The student artists will be recognized for their work with the awarding of ribbons at the opening reception Sunday.

Barton piano/organ instructor Karole Erikson will provide music for the reception, playing the Barton Music Department’s synthesizer. Music for the Shafer Gallery receptions is endowed by the Robert Keenan Memorial Music Series.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. All Shafer Gallery exhibits are presented in part by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
